BREEAM Multi-Residential

BREEAM Multi-residential is an environmental assessment method  which is intended for use on multi-occupancy residential buildings which do not qualify for assessment under the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) or EcoHomes.

In addiitonal to the issues covered by Ecohomes and CSH, BREEAM Multi-residential looks at communal service and the management of communal areas within the building such as catering facilites, lounges, dining rooms, health and leisure areas, offices, meeting rooms and other support areas such as laundry facilities.  Therefore, in case where buildings contain other functions in addition to self-contained dwellings, BREEAM Multi-residential may be used to provide a whole building assessment and rating.

BREEAM Multi-residential can be used to assess the following types of multi-residential developments at both the Design and Post Construction stages of their lifecycle :-

  • Student halls of residence
  • Key worker accommodation
  • Care Homes that do not consist of extensive medical facilities (consulting rooms and medical rooms are acceptable)
  • Sheltered housing; and,
  • Other multi-residential buldings which contain a mix of residential accommodation and communal areas (BREEAM Multi-residential is only accplicable where the communal areas account for more than 10% of the total Net Internal Floor area).

As BREEAM Multi-residential licensed Assessors, CNC is not only able to offer clients the benefit of our expertise in applying BREEAM but also, as practicing Building Control surveyors, are able to bring to the fore expertiese in Care/Halls of Residence premises pertaining the Building Regulations and other associated Legislation.
